In a recent on-set interview, Fantastic Four: First Steps producer Grant Curtis teased a major shake-up in the group’s dynamics. He suggested that Sue Storm may take on the leadership role in the upcoming MCU reboot, elevating her significance within the team and the story’s emotional core. The film is set to premiere on July 25, 2025.
Curtis stated, “If you look back at the comics, you realize that Sue Storm is arguably the leader of the Fantastic Four. Without her, everything falls apart.” He added that the story was intentionally built around her character: “Let’s tell the best story possible.”
Vanessa Kirby, who plays Sue, discussed the challenge of portraying a modern female hero without resorting to stereotypes: “It’s about embracing pregnancy and motherhood without falling into the typical tropes.” She praised her co-star Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), saying: “I’ve never had a male co-lead who was so supportive and truly equal in building the relationship.”
Pascal echoed her thoughts: “I love being led. It’s an opportunity to stand beside someone and learn from them — it’s a real partnership.”
The film’s narrative centers around Sue’s pregnancy with Franklin Richards, and the challenges of balancing family and heroism. Director Matt Shakman explored these questions: “Can you be a parent and a hero? Should you? What does it mean to try?”
Joseph Quinn, who plays Johnny Storm, emphasized the film’s emotional anchor: “The mission for us as actors is to create a family dynamic — messy, caring, and real.” As Curtis concluded: “It’s all about family.”
