Predator: Badlands is the next thrilling entry in the Predator franchise, directed by Dan Trachtenberg (Prey) and co-written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison. Originally revealed under the title Badlands, the movie was later renamed to include the iconic Predator branding. It’s scheduled for release on November 7, 2025.
The story introduces Elle Fanning in a unique double role as Thia and Tessa, twin sisters whose bond is tested in a hostile alien environment. Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi plays the Predator, Dek, an exiled Yautja who crash-lands on a deadly planet and must fight to regain his honor.
The movie’s narrative is centered on two separate yet interconnected storylines: one follows Thia, a sheltered genius embarking on her first adventure, while the other features her sister Tessa, a militant force willing to do anything — even clash with her twin — to achieve her mission. Both roles demand comedic timing, intense action skills, and emotional depth, with the casting call seeking an actress under 5’8” willing to undergo stunt training and prosthetic makeup.
Filming took place in New Zealand from June to September 2024, with reports confirming shooting in Rotorua, Te Kuiti, and South Head. Set photos revealed glimpses of the Predator costume and scenic alien landscapes.
At Cinemacon 2025, the first trailer showcased jaw-dropping visuals: Dek rides a speeder bike, wields a heated sword, and fends off vicious alien creatures. Surprisingly, he forms an alliance with Thia, suggesting a unique twist — the Predator is now the hunted. Scenes also reveal glimpses of Yautja Prime, the Predator homeworld, and battles that draw inspiration from Mad Max 2, The Book of Eli, and Shadow of the Colossus.
Dek’s character and language were developed with input from a linguist mentored by the creator of Avatar’s Na’vi dialect, adding a new level of detail and culture to the Yautja universe.
With a bold female lead, a sympathetic Predator, and heavy sci-fi action, Predator: Badlands aims to reshape the legacy of the franchise.
