In the confusing landscape of modern relationships, “Oh, Hi!” dares to ask: what happens when romantic expectations collide in the worst way — while someone’s literally chained to the bed? Directed by Sophie Brooks and co-written with lead actress Molly Gordon, this dark romantic comedy blends absurdity and truth in equal measure.
The story follows Iris (Gordon) and Isaac (Logan Lerman), a couple on their first romantic weekend getaway. Their chemistry is electric — they laugh, sing, flirt, and even align on more intimate matters. But when a miscommunication about their relationship status erupts, Iris snaps, deciding to keep Isaac restrained until they clear things up… her way.
The film hilariously and painfully explores gender clichés and the chaos of unspoken assumptions. Iris believes love can be reasoned into existence; Isaac just wants out — literally and figuratively. As friends Max (Geraldine Viswanathan) and Kenny (John Reynolds) get dragged into the mess, the story tips into full-blown mayhem.
While it slightly loses focus in its final act, Gordon’s grounded performance keeps the absurd premise believable. The result is a witty, daring reflection on intimacy, expectations, and emotional misfires — earning a solid 3 out of 4 stars. “Oh, Hi!” hits theaters this Friday, rated R for language, sexual content, and nudity. Run time: 94 minutes.
