Liam Neeson Leads the Laughs: Everything We Know About The Naked Gun Reboot (2025)

The classic spoof franchise The Naked Gun is returning to theaters in 2025 — and Liam Neeson is stepping into the lead role as Frank Drebin Jr., son of the beloved detective portrayed by Leslie Nielsen in the original films and Police Squad! series.

On April 3, Paramount released a teaser trailer that confirms the reboot will continue the franchise’s signature style: slapstick humor, absurd sight gags, and over-the-top action. This marks Neeson’s first full comedic lead. Despite brief comedic turns in Ted 2 and Derry Girls, the actor admitted in 2024:
“I’m slightly nervous. Sketches are short. A whole film… we’ll see.”

The plot remains under wraps, but according to the synopsis, Frank Drebin Jr. must lead the Police Squad and follow in his father’s footsteps to save the world — using a very unique set of skills.

The film stars Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, and Kevin Durand. Neeson praised Anderson for her talent and down-to-earth nature:
“I’m madly in love with her. She’s funny, professional, and so easy to work with.”
Anderson said it was tough to keep a straight face in their scenes and called Neeson “the perfect gentleman.”
