Freakier Friday: Multigenerational Body Swap Chaos Arrives in Hilarious Sequel

Disney has released the full trailer for Freakier Friday, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2003 body-swap comedy Freaky Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. Set to hit Australian theaters on August 8, 2025, the new installment introduces a multigenerational twist, heightening the comedy and emotional chaos that made the original a fan favorite.

In this sequel, Anna Coleman (Lohan) is now a successful record label executive, preparing to marry Eric Davies (Manny Jacinto). Her teenage daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons) are far from excited about becoming sisters. A mysterious palm reading at Anna’s bachelorette party triggers a four-way body swap, causing Anna and her mom Tess (Curtis) to switch bodies with Harper and Lily. The teens see a chance to sabotage the wedding and try to reconnect Anna with her high school crush Jake (Chad Michael Murray), leading to funny and touching consequences.

Familiar faces and fresh additions

The film brings back several original cast members, including Mark Harmon (Ryan), Christina Vidal Mitchell (Maddie), Haley Hudson (Peg), Rosalind Chao (Pei-Pei), Lucille Soong (Pei-Pei’s mom), and Stephen Tobolowsky (Mr. Bates). The Parent Trap’s Elaine Hendrix also makes a cameo as Blake Kale, a pop star’s stylist. New additions include Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Vanessa Bayer.

Behind the scenes

Directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and written by Jordan Weiss, the movie is produced by Jamie Lee Curtis, Lindsay Lohan, Kristin Burr, and Andrew Gunn. Filming took place in Los Angeles from June to August 2024.

Nostalgia meets modern comedy

The trailer offers a fun mix of old and new, featuring callbacks like a Britney Spears vinyl and the return of the fictional band Pink Slip. Jamie Lee Curtis teased that this sequel is “freakier” than the original, thanks to double body swaps and a fresh spin on the mother-daughter bond.
