Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Makes History With IMAX 70mm Tickets Going on Sale One Year Early

The anticipation for Christopher Nolan’s epic film The Odyssey is officially underway. Variety has confirmed that IMAX 70mm tickets for the film will go on sale on July 17, 2025—exactly one year before the movie’s worldwide theatrical release.

This marks the first time in cinema history that a studio is offering tickets this far in advance. The decision reflects Nolan’s massive and dedicated fan base, especially among enthusiasts of IMAX 70mm projection, a format the director consistently champions.

These advance tickets will be exclusively available for IMAX 70mm-equipped theaters. Confirmed venues include AMC Lincoln Square in New York and BFI IMAX in London, with other potential locations like Manchester Printworks yet to confirm their participation.

✈️ Traveling for Film

With only around 30 IMAX film projectors remaining globally, fans of Nolan’s work have been known to travel great distances for an authentic experience—as they did for Oppenheimer. Considering that The Odyssey is the first movie ever filmed entirely using IMAX film cameras, interest and demand are expected to be even higher.

The film retells Homer’s ancient Greek epic, chronicling the journey of Odysseus (played by Matt Damon) as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War. The film also stars Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, with appearances by Jon Bernthal, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron.
