Sony Pictures has released the official poster for Caught Stealing, the quirky crime thriller directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Austin Butler. Known for psychological dramas like Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream, Aronofsky shifts gears with this fast-paced, darkly comedic action movie.

Based on the novel by Charlie Huston, who also penned the screenplay, the story follows Hank Thompson (Butler), a former high school baseball prodigy whose career ended before it began. Now, he’s just bartending in New York and enjoying life with his girlfriend (Zoë Kravitz)—until he agrees to cat-sit for his punk rock neighbor Russ (played by Matt Smith).

Soon, Hank finds himself hunted by a bizarre group of dangerous gangsters, mistaken for someone else and caught in a whirlwind of violence and confusion. He must scramble to survive and figure out what’s really going on.

The cast features an exciting mix of talent, including Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Griffin Dunne, Vincent D’Onofrio, Carol Kane, Bad Bunny, Action Bronson, and Tenoch Huerta.

With a style likened to Snatch and Layer Cake, Caught Stealing is already stirring buzz, and could kick off a trilogy if successful — as it’s based on the first in a series of novels.

📅 Caught Stealing hits theaters in the U.S. on August 29, 2025.
