Farewell, Downton: Cast Reunites for Final Documentary After Last Film

After six acclaimed seasons and two beloved films, Downton Abbey prepares for its grand finale with a third and final movie, followed by an emotional send-off: a farewell documentary featuring the cast reuniting one last time.

Titled Farewell Downton Abbey, the documentary is being produced by Monkey Kingdom, and filming has recently wrapped. However, while fans are excited about this reunion, there’s a twist — the special is reportedly headed exclusively to streaming platforms, likely sparking a bidding war between Netflix, which holds the rights to the original series, and Prime Video, home of the first two films.

A TV insider revealed:

“It’s bittersweet news — fans will be thrilled to see the original cast back together, but frustrated that access may depend on having the right subscription.”

The farewell documentary will accompany the release of the third and final film, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, scheduled for September 2025.

Returning to the screen are beloved stars Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern as the Earl and Countess of Grantham, along with Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary and Jim Carter as Mr. Carson. These actors rose to international fame thanks to the show’s original run from 2010 to 2015.

As fans prepare to say goodbye to one of the most iconic British dramas of all time, this final chapter promises emotion, nostalgia, and a graceful farewell.
