Cazuza: A Tender Portrait of His Final Stage Moments in New Documentary

The new documentary Cazuza: Boas Novas premieres in 2025, offering an intimate and heartfelt look at the iconic Brazilian rock star. Unlike the 2004 biopic starring Daniel de Oliveira, this film chooses not to portray Cazuza’s entire life. Instead, it focuses on his final tour, during a time when his physical condition had begun to affect his stage presence, even as Ideologia topped the charts.

Directed and co-created by Nilo Romero, Cazuza’s former bassist and tour manager, the documentary presents a deeply affectionate view of the artist. It features rare backstage footage, live performances, and powerful interviews — including an emotional testimony from long-time collaborator Roberto Frejat, as well as memorable stories told by Leo Jaime.

With several full-length performances and a respectful look at his final days on stage, Boas Novas serves as a moving tribute to Cazuza’s unmatched artistry and enduring impact on Brazilian music.
