Cameron Diaz Returns to the Screen in a Netflix Blockbuster After 11 Years Away
After over a decade off-screen, Cameron Diaz, once the highest-paid actress in Hollywood, is making her grand return to acting in the spy comedy “Back in Action”. In the film’s first trailer, the Charlie’s Angels star teams up with Jamie Foxx for what promises to be a thrilling and fun-filled ride.
“Like old times, honey!” exclaims an enthusiastic Jamie Foxx in a moment from the teaser, perfectly capturing the nostalgic excitement surrounding Diaz’s comeback. Playing Emily, a former CIA spy forced out of retirement alongside her husband Matt (played by Foxx) when her cover is blown, Diaz proves she still has the charm and energy that made her a star in the early 2000s.
Why did Cameron Diaz step away from acting for 11 years?
Emily’s story mirrors Diaz’s real-life journey in some ways. In 2014, Diaz decided to step away from Hollywood to focus on her family and explore new ventures, such as investing in startups and writing self-help books. At the peak of her career, she starred in blockbusters like There’s Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angels, and the Shrek franchise, becoming the highest-paid actress in the world in 2008.
Back in Action won’t be her only project
In addition to “Back in Action”, Cameron Diaz has already lined up another project. She’s set to star in Jonah Hill’s upcoming metacomedy “Outcome”, which will reunite her with Keanu Reeves nearly 30 years after their first collaboration in Feeling Minnesota.
Nearly eleven years after her last trio of films (The Other Woman, Sex Tape, and Annie), Cameron Diaz will make her streaming comeback on January 17, 2025, with “Back in Action”, directed by Seth Gordon, known for The Night Agent.
